On this Membership page, you'll find the answers to all your questions about being part of PRSA at the national and chapter levels.

What is PRSA? What is a chapter? How do I join?

What are the benefits of membership?

How do I join a professional interest “section?”

I’m retired from the professions. Why should I stay involved?

The Public Relations Society of America is the premier professional society for public relations practitioners and exercises leadership in providing international accreditation (APR) and Fellowship (Fellow, PRSA) designations to qualified members who pass a rigorous oral and written examination. The Society also strives to provide expert guidance to those who wish to pursue a career in public relations and to members at every stage of their growth as practitioners.

Several levels of membership are available, depending upon the experience of the practitioner. Because membership is conferred upon an individual, should a member change employers, membership is "portable."

The national Society is organized into Districts and Chapters, each of which provide value-added activities, including conferences, chapter meetings with informative speakers, professional development sessions, networking opportunities and more. Check out the rest of this local web site for details on Southern Arizona’s member offerings.

Free resources for PRSA members include:

  • Subscriptions to Tactics and Strategist, the society's award-winning publications
  • A comprehensive web site (www.prsa.org) with information about upcoming conferences and professional development opportunities
  • Free use of web-based PRC Search, where full-text articles from past issues of publications, outlines of award-winning Silver and Bronze Anvil entries and articles and cases on topics of interest are at your fingertips (searches start at $50 for non-members)
  • An opportunity to participate at the district and/or national level in developing policy and services for the Society
  • A widely-recognized and admired Code of Ethics to which our members subscribe

To join PRSA, go to www.prsa.org and click on Membership on the black navigation bar at the top of the page. Please carefully review the eligibility requirements for membership is each category and don’t forget to check to see if there’s a special promotion code that could save you money or provide additional benefits!

You may join online or print out the application for mailing. At the time you apply you may choose to pay dues in installments, if that will be more convenient. Chapter dues are included in the national dues notice each year and are remitted to the Chapter as appropriate.

If you are employed in a specialized field such as healthcare, technology or travel and tourism, you will find additional value in joining a PRSA Professional Interest Section. On the Membership page, click on Professional Interest Sections on the green navigation bar on the left.

We want to keep you involved! If you are a retired senior practitioner, age 62 or older, who has been a member of PRSA for five consecutive years or longer and are presently in good standing, you may elect change your status to Retired Member and qualify for a significant reduction in dues at the national, section and chapter levels. Please contact member services at membership@prsa.org to obtain a copy of an affidavit to certify that you work less than 20 hours per week and do not intend to return to the full-time practice of the profession.
